Working with Emotional Intelligence - Download Article
The secret of success is not what they taught you in school. What matters most is not academic excellence, not a business school degree, not even technical know-how or years of experience. What distinguishes star performers from the mediocre is emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is actually a set of skills that anyone can acquire, and in this practical guide, renowned researcher and author Daniel Goleman identifies them, explains their importance and shows how they can be fostered.

Pride month.png

Our TSTN Executive would like to wish all our Schedule II LGBTQ2IA+ employees a very Happy Pride Month!

This year, June also honours the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, which saw members of the LGBTQ community fight back against harassment from the police in New York City in June 1969.  Despite this long history, the battle for LGBTQ rights continues to this day and the TDSB is doing its part to build a culture of acceptance and diversity.

Toronto District School Board Celebrates LGBTQ Pride Every Day

Toronto’s annual Pride Parade will take place on Sunday, June 23, 2019 and a proud TDSB contingent of students, staff, Trustees and community members will be taking part, just like we’ve done every year since 2000.  Everyone is welcome to come out and join!  Follow all the fun on Parade day via Twitter with #PrideTDSB and @tdsb.

TSTN also participates in the Pride Committee and was fortunate enough to attend the Pride Flag Raising outside of 5050 Yonge Street on June 3, 2019.  Watch our short video below to start your month off by letting your true colours fly!

Both Director John Malloy and Trustee Chris Moise attended the flag raising ceremony and spoke about how important Pride is all year round for our staff, students and community.  There are over 60 schools in the TDSB that have a GSA (gay-straight alliance) committee and Trustee Moise stated that he hopes in his lifetime, he will see a GSA at all Toronto schools and even across the whole country.

Director Malloy echoed the sentiment that Pride is about more than a month; it’s about creating safe and inclusive spaces for all of our students, especially our LGBTQ2S students.

For more information on the TDSB’s Pride Initiatives and events, please visit their webpage.  This page also includes information on the Director’s GSA Awards, the International Day of Pink, TDSB Pride History, Gender-Based Violence Prevention and the Accommodation of Transgender Students and Staff.
